On behalf of the governors, trustees and staff I would like to welcome your family to Fernhurst School
Fernhurst village has a rich history of championing education for it’s children, and this tradition is strong today. We are a one form entry school, which allows our team to really get to know all of the children and what interests and excites them.
Within this prospectus you will see details of the curriculum that we deliver at Fernhurst. We approach curriculum development differently to most schools – we strive to provide excellence in teaching, and then work with our partner schools with Chichester Academy Trust to allow our subject leads to work with the leads in other schools, on the basis that working together will always encourage our team to be the best, and expect the best from our children. We are very proud of our Explore Curriculum, which allows us to make the most of being set in the South Downs and the opportunities this gives us, and to offer an outdoor learning curriculum.
We believe that children’s education is a partnership between the school, the home and the child, and we encourage family to take part in school life – from open classrooms, sporting events, assemblies or joining the Friends of Fernhurst School (FOFS - PTFA). We also recognise that many parents work and ensure regular communications keep you up to date with your child’s progress.
Fernhurst has a strong reputation for pastoral support, with an amazing Special Education Needs team, and Inclusion Support. We see your child as an individual and will support them to access education and social development to help them to achieve.
Fernhurst is rightfully proud of the opportunities it provides to its children – from performing at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, to visiting London to look at the impact of the Thames on our local environment, or closer to home Explorer Dens – all aspects of Fernhurst life are closely crafted to offer an enriched curriculum and to support life long learning.
I am regularly at Fernhurst and welcome conversations and questions, or please reach our directly to me or one of the other governors for any more information.
I look forward to you joining our family
Yours sincerely
Penny Flux
Chair of Governors

The school governors are a group of individuals drawn from a variety of backgrounds. Some are parents, some are staff and some are members of the local community. They all have the same aims - to establish the strategic direction for the school, to challenge and support the staff, and to monitor school finances. At the bottom of this page, you will find an overview of individual Governors so that you can see their experience and profile within school.
At Fernhurst Primary School, the knowledge that the Governors hold due to their diverse experiences of the school and education and the local community allow them accurately to assess the progress and needs of the school.
